Ancestor art…

Last few days of the Platform show… this is one piece of mine that’s on show there. It’s my grandparents.

Photo of artwork, textile work celebrating the lives of my grandparents.

  1. Hi Uta!!!
I’m such a silly old thing aren’t I? Disappearing then reappearing. I think it must be a family trait, my Dad did it(for real) and the lovely uncle I grew up with went on a fortnight’s holiday… and didn’t come back! I go into ‘recluse mode’, I don’t actually go away. I seem to need to renew my heart and energies quietly and at home.

Haven’t the fires been terrible in your country? I think of you every time I hear the news on the radio. I remember you saying how dry everything was, when you went on your holiday last year to see the Warhol exhibition. I hope you and your family and friends are all ok.
Good to hear from you, Uta thanks for dropping by .

  2. Hi April,
Thank you for your message re the artwork. It felt good to do that piece and I did a series of brooches (very similar, but smaller, to the main artwork) and sent them to my mother, aunts and a cousin. One aunt is nearly 90 and she rang to say how the brooch brought back many happy memories of her childhood. Her Dad died when she was 11 and she’d never seen a photo of her parents together. I used two separate photos , both from around the 1920’s and photo-collaged them together for the piece. I t seemed to bring her and my Mum comfort to see their parents both together again.
Thanks so much for your interest April, love Julie x
